Jessica Schwientek is a fine art photographer practicing analogue, historical and chemistry-based photography. Schwientek’s work places an emphasis on the alternative and the experimental, with an acknowledgement that the photograph does not always portray absolute truth.
Predominantly working with photographic film, Schwientek is drawn to the imperfections and limitations the medium affords. By processing and printing by hand, whenever possible, she allows herself to intuitively control the image and to embed emotive richness into the silvers of the materials.
Linking photography with human memory, Schwientek approaches the photographic image as an object that can be manipulated, dismantled, and transformed into something far removed from the simple click of a shutter.
