Prix

Prix’s creative talent was nurtured from a young age by his aunt, herself an artist, whose influence sparked a creative obsession that has been honed over 20 years immersed in Melbourne’s underground art scene. Now widely regarded as one of the city’s most respected and prolific street artists, Prix is never content to rest on his reputation – his work constantly pushes the boundaries of graffiti’s stylistic and spatial conventions.

Known for his striking and often surreal use of colour, the emotional lucidity of Prix’s style is articulated across the enigmatic experimentation of his large-scale pieces, flamboyantly energetic throwies, and intricate hieroglyphic hand styles.

An intimate knowledge of Melbourne’s urban landscape has given rise to Prix’s intuitive use of the built environment. Drawing inspiration from the incidental colours, contrasting materials, and architectural styles that manifest as urban and industrial areas undergo development, his carefully chosen canvases often have as much to say as the pieces themselves.

Having exhibited in gallery shows and undertaken large-scale commissioned pieces, including an interior mural spanning an 11storey Southbank office stairwell, Prix continues to broaden the scope of his practice as the distinctions between street and the conventional art world continue to blur.
