Big Yawn

Melbourne quartet Big Yawn make experimental electronic music by fusing a wash of sweeping synthesizers, heavily refracted vocal sampling, motorik style percussion and disorientating dub FX. The band takes musical inspiration from artists like Hiroshi Sato, Hype Williams, DJ Nigga Fox, Shinichi Atobe and many more.

Big Yawn’s partnership with the Research Records label gave rise to a growing catalogue of releases, including their debut album No! that channelled the band’s predilection for adventurous cross-genre combinatorics.

While clearly indebted to drum and bass, post-punk, UK bass music, footwork and ambient conventions, the LP is made unique by its own dissociative take on live electronic music. Big Yawn has also released No! Remixes, and the EPs South Preston Garage and Pressure Acts.
