Inspired by the spontaneous compositions that exist throughout Melbourne, Roy has long been drawn to its temporary glimpses of colour, shape and form. In the city — built up from many years of bill postering, scrawls, graffiti and neglect — layers of the past and present are lifted, torn, and pulled back to reveal pockets of collage-like scrapbook pages. After years of obsessively studying and documenting these instances, Roy’s signature layering processes enables him to capture his own visual narratives, which float through dynamic layers of stylistic introspection.
Widely recognised as an exciting emerging artist, Roy has quickly established himself as a unique talent in the world of contemporary abstract expressionism. He exhibits extensively both nationally and internationally, and his work is held in numerous notable private collections worldwide.
